NORTH CAROLINA THEATER STARGAZING VIDEO SERIES
PROBLEM
As a native of Raleigh, NC, I’ve long admired the high-quality productions of the North Carolina Theatre (NCT), known for attracting audiences from across the Southeast and featuring talent directly from New York City. Beyond its mainstage productions, NCT also runs a conservatory in North Raleigh, dedicated to nurturing the next generation of young performers.
The COVID-19 pandemic led to the indefinite closure of theaters nationwide, including NCT. In response, the theater sought to maintain audience engagement despite the suspension of live performances. Following an internship the previous summer where I demonstrated my video editing skills, the Marketing Director reached out to enlist my help for a new project.
Throughout 2020, NCT, as a non-profit theater company, faced significant challenges. With live performances no longer an option, the company needed to remain relevant amidst ongoing cancellations and the uncertainty surrounding any potential reopening. In this climate, NCT decided to launch a major fundraising initiative.
SOLUTION
I was tasked with creating a five-episode video series hosted by NCT's Artistic Director, Eric Woodall, to spotlight notable performers who had collaborated with the theatre over the years. Each episode featured a diverse array of stars, from veteran Broadway actors to local celebrities. In addition to producing the video content, I developed promotional graphics and branding to support the series throughout the pandemic.
The resulting series showcased over 15 performers and garnered significant attention, with each episode reaching upwards of 500 views on YouTube and generating additional engagement across social media platforms.
