During my second semester of senior year, I had the privilege of working with the dedicated team at the Phoenix Club, which is responsible for raising funds for student-athletes and the Elon Athletics department. As a graphic intern, I contributed to the team’s impressive achievement of raising over $1.7 million throughout the year. In this role, I collaborated with the team to create promotional materials for both students and donors, as well as assisting with promotional mail pieces and social media content.
A significant portion of my work focused on email marketing and social media initiatives. For each project, I developed multiple iterations of designs to ensure they were adaptable across various social media channels and effective for email campaigns directed at donors and students. One notable project I worked on was the campaign promoting the Letter-Winner hat, which featured my design for the Elon Letter-Winner patch. For this campaign, I created two email headers along with a primary graphic for social media.
One of my favorite series of graphics was for the annual Thank-A-Thon, a day dedicated to expressing gratitude from Elon student-athletes to their donors. My responsibilities included designing email headers, social media posts, and a postcard graphic that allowed students to write personal messages thanking donors for their support. I particularly enjoyed the creative freedom I had for this event, and the designs I produced were especially rewarding.
I had the opportunity to work on numerous outstanding projects during my time at the Phoenix Club, although I cannot list all of them here. Some of my favorite projects included three email headers for Women’s and Men’s basketball, two graphics for Alumni Weekend, and a Membership Deadline poster utilized in both print and digital formats.
One of the key fundraising events at Elon University is #ElonDay, during which the Phoenix Club was tasked with raising funds for Elon Athletics and student-athletes. My role involved creating a variety of social media posts, promotional print materials, and email headers. I thoroughly enjoyed these projects, and on Elon Day alone, I helped raise over $569,000 for Elon student-athletes. This experience was invaluable, allowing me to witness firsthand the impact of a dedicated fundraising team working on such a large scale.
